Job Description


Our Sharjah office, has an opening for a:

Commercial Officer

The Commercial Officer supports the Commercial Director to maximize revenue and profitability through tendering and commercial management of the regional fleet of vessels. The Commercial department within Smit Lamnalco is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities for business expansion, to secure and retain existing business activities and contracts and to develop and win new business in line with the strategic plan throughout the regions. This role reports directly to the Commercial Director, MEIS.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and obtain relevant tender and contract documents.
  • Assist the Commercial Director in the timely preparation of tenders and contract negotiations.
  • Liaise with other SL departments to obtain necessary information and input for tenders and contracts.
  • Assist with other SL departments in the preparation of vessels for prospective tenders and charters.
  • Develop and manage client relationships as directed by the Commercial Director.
  • Support the Commercial Director and Contract Managers to ensure timely issuance of invoices, collection of payments from debtors and all necessary documentation as required.
  • Support the Commercial Director and Contract Managers in identifying and chartering third party vessels as required.
  • Ensure the CRM system is kept up to date with information on opportunities, running tenders, client visits, meetings and contract developments.
  • Liaise with Legal Department to ensure that the SL charter party agreements and contracts database is kept up to date.
  • Ensure SL's pre-qualification on the bid list of companies as defined in the Group Business Plan.
  • Maintain SL details up to date with IOC's and NOC's procurement systems.
  • Produce timely Commercial reports and Business Intelligence information.
  • Support the Commercial Director in the arrangements for Trade Exhibitions and Industry seminars.

Qualifications


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in a maritime or business related field.
  • Well-developed computer skills (ERP system, MS Office, CRM Management).
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position within the shipping industry.
  • Previous experience in chartering, tender management and contract admin is essential.
  • Well-developed written and verbal command of English, knowledge of Arabic is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel regularly
